Product homologation makes it safe for consumers to purchase and use telecommunications products as this procedure gives a warranty for such products to follow minimum quality and security standards, and that all technical functions are in compliance with their respective legal regulations.
According to a model approved by ANATEL in July 2001, the technical compliance certification of products is made through the Designated Certification Organism (OCD), whereas it falls on ANATEL to ratify the homologation – a procedure through which compliance certificates are acknowledged.
Resolution no. 242, issued on 11/30/2000 as published in the Federal Official Daily Newspaper on 12/05/2000 and published by ANATEL, is confirmed by Decree no. 2,338 issued on October 1997. This resolution regulates and makes it mandatory to certify and homologate telecommunications products for the entire Brazilian territory. Other resolutions followed Resolution no. 242 to define and regulate the entire sector. But Resolution 242 acted as a turning point on how to approach this theme.
